A dark and atmospheric piece inspired by one of the most recognisable lines in gothic literature, “Quoth the Raven, Nevermore.”
Hand-carved by Ogham by Sorcha Brigid, this piece is made from oak laminate and features a stylised raven at its centre, surrounded by decorative carved markings inspired by ancient Celtic and Ogham aesthetics. The raven has been given a bold, almost mythical appearance, with sweeping lines and intricate detailing that make it feel equally at home in a gothic, Celtic or literary-inspired collection.
The words “Quoth the Raven, Nevermore” are hand-carved into the reverse, alongside the maker’s details and date, making this a genuinely individual, handmade piece rather than a mass-produced decoration.
The oak grain adds warmth and character to the design, contrasting beautifully with the darkened carving. Each line has been carved by hand, meaning there will naturally be small variations and imperfections. These are part of the character of a handmade artwork and make every piece unique.
The raven itself carries centuries of symbolism, from mystery and wisdom to death, transformation and the unknown. Combined with Edgar Allan Poe’s haunting refrain, it gives this piece a wonderfully gothic atmosphere without losing the connection to Celtic-inspired craftsmanship.
It would make a striking addition to a gothic, Celtic, literary or witchy-inspired home, and would look particularly at home displayed on a bookshelf, altar, gallery wall or alongside other handcrafted pieces.
